Cody Blades:
I am of Cherokee lineage and grew up finding relics in the plowed fields of a tobacco farm, so arrowheads have always been a part of my life. I started flintknapping quite a few years ago now and I am a traditional style knapper. I use stone, bone, and moose, elk and deer antler in making my knives and spearheads and do the edgework with beaten copper. My material of choice is obsidian, the sharpest material known to man, and still in use today. A lot of heart and lung surgery is done using obsidian blades instead of surgical steel. Obsidian is sharper so it leaves less scar tissue, and the molecules are more densely packed which makes the surface slick and less hospitable for bacteria growth. You could butcher and process an animal the size of a Woolly Mammoth using an obsidian blade no larger than a silver dollar!
