Osmina Pearl:
The correct spelling is really Osmena pearl but it sounds and
looks friendlier when spelled with an "i" instead of "e", it takes the word
"mean" out of it. Sounds stupid right? A gentleman at a gem show I was
set-up at told me to change my sign and spell it "Osmina" and almost
immediately my sales tripled? Go figure.? Osmena Pearl is made from the
famous "Chambered Nautilus" shell, inside the shell is one small section
that is domed, and irridescent like the rainbow. It is removed, hand cut,
polished and then backed with Mother of Pearl to complete the cabochon. They
are usually very beautiful and lustrous and have the added benefit of being
priced slightly lower than round pearls and because of their shape are
excellent for pendants and rings..It is made to look like the more expensive
and hard to get Mabe pearl, a cultured pearl also called a Blister Pearl. A
true blister pearl is made only when it forms in an Oyster shell on the
inside of the shell instead of inside the oyster body like true pearl. Here
